This page is a basic outline to help the
obedient Seventh Day Remnant child of God walk in the truth that is found in the
Word of God and Spirit of Prophecy. This outline dictates the proper spiritual
posture of those seeking to glorify
the Lord in their Christian walk as well as their walk of leadership in the Seventh Day Remnant church
of Jesus Christ the eternal and ever living King of all Creation.
- The Example from His Word towards the
perfection we strive unto -
1 Peter 2:21, “Hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps.”
Here are some things to consider before taking a position in the Church of God that in
so doing requires us to lead the flock by example. As we see in His Word, some
things should be embraced and some overcome so as to help others do the same. If we have not overcome the things we
wrestlle in, how do we expect to lead others in the church to follow our lead? For
clarification, this does not mean that you can't be in the community preaching the three angel's message and sharing
one's faith in the Lord. For this is the calling of every baptized believers.
And when the new soul comes into the church due to our effrots, we need to lead them to even
more light in overcoming many other areas of life by our example that Jesus
Christ our King left for us to follow. This will not be done overnight of course.
It is a life long trek of one step at a time towards the perfection we strive
unto. We, as the remnant people of God are all called to do a great work for the
Lord. None of us are perfect, and we all grow at our own pace. There are many heavenly
principles that should take root in our life that is a must in leading the flock
properly. We must be that example unto the flock so they to may learn to overcome.
They must see in us that all things truly are possible through Christ who gives us the power to do His
will. After all, it is written in Philippians 2:13, "For it is God which
worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure."
If
in obedience we learn to perfectly submit ourselves to Him, we may be called
to be in that number that does His will like no other
in the history of makind. If these souls in the church do not see those who are teaching and working for the church as overcoming in major
as well as the simple areas, then they will be tempted to follow our lead into
apostasy as we have seen all the churches of the world doing as we speak. So let us grow in this understanding
that helps to bring souls into the presence of the Lord for all eternity..
Health message:
1 Corinthians 3:17, “If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are.”
“The health reform, I was shown, is a part of the third angel's message, and is just as closely connected with it as are the arm and hand with the human body. I saw that we as a people must make an advance move in this great work. Ministers and people must act in concert. God's people are not prepared for the loud cry of the third angel. They have a work to do for themselves which they should not leave for God to do for them. He has left this work for them to do. It is an individual work; one cannot do it for another. ‘Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.’" Counsels on Diet and Food pg. 32 par. 2
- Flesh eating – “Let not any of our ministers set an evil example in the eating of flesh meat. Let them and their families live up to the light of health reform. Let not our ministers animalize their own nature and the nature of their children. Children whose desires have not been restrained, are tempted not only to indulge in the common habits of intemperance, but to give loose rein to their lower passions, and to disregard purity and virtue. These are led on by Satan not only to corrupt their own bodies, but to whisper their evil communications to others. If parents are blinded by sin, they will often fail of discerning these things.” Counsels on Diet and Food pg. 399 par. 3
- Weight – Proverbs 23:20, 21, 23: Be not among winebibbers; among riotous eaters of flesh; for the drunkard and the glutton shall come to poverty; and drowsiness shall clothe a man with rags. . . . Buy the truth, and sell it not; also wisdom, and instruction, and understanding. Pamphlets 48 pg. 20 par.1
- Tea & Coffee – “The habit of drinking tea and coffee is a greater evil than is often suspected. Many who have accustomed themselves to the use of stimulating drinks, suffer from headache and nervous prostration, and lose much time on account of sickness. They imagine they cannot live without the stimulus, and are ignorant of its effect upon health. What makes it the more dangerous is, that its evil effects are so often attributed to other causes.” Counsels on Diet and Food pg. 422 par. 2
- Soda – “The use of soda or baking powder in breadmaking is harmful and unnecessary. Soda causes inflammation of the stomach and often poisons the entire system. Many housewives think that they cannot make good bread without soda, but this is an error. If they would take the trouble to learn better methods, their bread would be more wholesome, and, to a natural taste, it would be more palatable.” Counsels on Diet and Food pg. 316 par. 2
- Smoking – “They profess to be serving God while they are committing idolatry, by making a god of their appetite. Tobacco is their cherished idol. To it every high and sacred consideration must bow. They profess to be worshiping God, while at the same time they are violating the first commandment. They have other gods before the Lord. “Be ye clean that bear the vessels of the Lord.’” Spiritual Gifts, vol. 4, pp. 127, 128.
- Vinegar
– Numbers 6:3
"He shall separate himself from wine and strong drink, and shall drink
no vinegar of wine, or vinegar of strong drink, neither shall he drink any
liquor of grapes, nor eat moist grapes, or dried."
Faithful in tithes and offerings:
Malachi 3:8-10, “Will a man rob God? Yet ye have robbed me. But ye say, Wherein have we robbed thee? In tithes and offerings. Ye are cursed with a curse: for ye have robbed me, even this whole nation. Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it.”
- Neglect is Robbery—“Let all who fear God come up to the help of the Lord, and show themselves faithful stewards. The truth must go to all parts of the world. I have been shown that many in our churches are robbing God in tithes and offerings. God will execute upon them just that which He has declared. To the obedient, He will give rich blessings; to the transgressor, a curse. Every man who bears the message of truth to our churches, must do his duty by warning, educating, rebuking. Any neglect of duty which is a robbery toward God, means a curse upon the delinquent.” Testimonies to Ministers, p. 307.
- Faithful in Paying Tithes—“This is not a request of man; it is one of God's ordinances, whereby His work may be sustained and carried on in the world. God help us to repent. "Return unto Me," He says, "and I will return unto You." Men who have a desire to do their duty, have it all laid down in clear lines in this chapter. No one can excuse himself from paying his tithes and offerings to the Lord.” Testimonies to Ministers, p. 307.

- Baptism– Baptism by immersion is a symbol of the death, burial, and resurrection of Christ and openly expresses faith in His saving grace and the giving up of sin and the world. Governing own house:

Worldliness:
- Jewelry– “Self-denial in dress is a part of our Christian duty. To dress plainly, abstaining from display of jewelry and ornaments of every kind, is in keeping with our faith.” Counsels for the Church pg. 181 par.7
- Cosmetics– “Many are ignorantly injuring their health and endangering their life by using cosmetics. They are robbing the cheeks of the glow of health, and then to supply the deficiency use cosmetics. When they become heated in the dance the poison is absorbed by the pores of the skin, and is thrown into the blood. Many lives have been sacrificed by this means alone.” {HR, October 1, 1871 par. 20}
- Dress reform – "In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel." 1 Timothy 2:9.
- "The woman shall not wear that which pertaineth unto a man, neither shall a man put on a woman's garment: for all that do so are abomination unto the Lord thy God." Deuteronomy 22:5.
- Music– “Music was made to serve a holy purpose, to lift the thoughts to that which is pure, noble and elevating, and to awaken in the soul devotion and gratitude to God. What a contrast between the ancient custom and the uses to which music is now too often devoted. How many employ this gift to exalt self, instead of using it to glorify God? A love for music leads the unwary to unite with world-lovers in pleasure-gatherings where God has forbidden his children to go. Thus that which is a great blessing when rightly used, becomes one of the most successful agencies by which Satan allures the mind from duty and from the contemplation of eternal things. Music forms a part of God's worship in the courts above, and we should endeavor, in our songs of praise, to approach as nearly as possible to the harmony of the heavenly choirs. The proper training of the voice is an important feature in education, and should not be neglected. - Movies– “The Theater the Hotbed of Immorality.--Among the most dangerous resorts for pleasure is the theater. Instead of being a school for morality and virtue, as is so often claimed, it is the very hotbed of immorality. Vicious habits and sinful propensities are strengthened and confirmed by these entertainments. Low songs, lewd gestures, expressions, and attitudes deprave the imagination and debase the morals. Every youth who habitually attends such exhibitions will be corrupted in principle. There is no influence in our land more powerful to poison the imagination, to destroy religious impressions, and to blunt the relish for the tranquil pleasures and sober realities of life than theatrical amusements. The love for these scenes increases with every indulgence as the desire for intoxicating drink strengthens with its use. The only safe course is to shun the theater, the circus, and every other questionable place of amusement.” The Adventist Home pg. 516 par.2
- Sports– "The Problem of Many Athletic Sports.--Vigorous exercise the pupils must have. Few evils are more to be dreaded than indolence and aimlessness. Yet the tendency of most athletic sports is a subject of anxious thought to those who have at heart the well-being of the youth. Teachers are troubled as they consider the influence of these sports both on the student's progress in school and on his success in afterlife. The games that occupy so much of his time are diverting the mind from study. They are not helping to prepare the youth for practical, earnest work in life. Their influence does not tend toward refinement, generosity, or real manliness.
Some of the most popular amusements, such as football and boxing, have become schools of brutality. They are developing the same characteristics as did the games of ancient Rome. The love of domination, the pride in mere brute force, the reckless disregard of life, are exerting upon the youth a power to demoralize that is appalling.
Other athletic games, though not so brutalizing, are scarcely less objectionable because of the excess to which they are carried. They stimulate the love of pleasure and excitement, thus fostering a distaste for useful labor, a disposition to shun practical duties and responsibilities. They tend to destroy a relish for life's sober realities and its tranquil enjoyments. Thus the door is opened to dissipation and lawlessness with their terrible results." {The Adventist Home pg.500 par.4}
Appearance of evil-
1 Thessalonians 5:22,
"Abstain from all appearance of evil."
This entails the following general issues. In today’s world a
bevy of reasons can be added as each day brings new evils as we are
all aware. As obedient Christians we must never be seen entering:
- Theaters
- Sunday keeping churches
- SDA churches
- Non-Christian churches
- Liquor stores
- Bars
- Gambling casinos
- Homes of the opposite sex unchaperoned or accompanied
Politics:
Matthew 22:21, “They say unto him, Caesar's. Then saith he unto them, Render therefore unto Caesar the things which are Caesar's; and unto God the things that are God's.”
“God's children are to separate themselves from politics, from any alliance with unbelievers. Do not take part in political strife. Separate from the world, and refrain from bringing into the church or school ideas that will lead to contention and disorder. Dissension is the moral poison taken into the system by human beings who are selfish.” Counsels for the Church pg. 316 par.6
