AT least 10 melon-sized ice balls that have fallen from the sky in Spain in
the past week are probably debris from comets rather than excrement ejected
from planes, as first suspected, a scientist said yesterday. Enrique Martinez,
head of a team studying the phenomenon at the Higher Council of Scientific
Investigation, said: "They lack the typical colouring and texture we find
in those cases."
A man escaped injury in southern Spain last week when
an
ice ball weighing 9lb smashed into his car
. Since then nine more cases have been reported in Spain.
