Priest molested boy, 12, at rockaway beach: da
June 26, 2002 -- A Catholic priest was arrested yesterday on
charges
of abusing a 12-year-old Queens boy he had taken on an outing
to
Rockaway Beach.
Peter Kiare, 41, a missionary priest
visiting from Kenya, was charged
with sexual abuse, forcible touching
and endangering the welfare of a
minor after he molested the boy on the
afternoon of June 16, said
Patrick Clark, a spokesman for the Queens
District Attorney's Office.
The alleged abuse took place where
the boardwalk meets Beach 116th
Street in Rockaway Park, police said.
The boy told his parents, who then alerted church leaders.
Church officials promptly notified the Queens DA.
Kiare, a member of the Ireland-based Holy Ghost Fathers, had
been
preaching at St. Mary's Church in Woodside, Queens, since he
arrived
in New York June 11.
The Brooklyn Diocese,
which includes Queens, could not immediately be
reached for comment.
Five days ago, the Rev. Cyriacus Udegbulem, a visiting priest
from
Nigeria, was busted in Texas for allegedly raping and sodomizing
a
woman while he was assigned to a Brooklyn church two years ago.
Udegbulem is on a list of 35 priests accused of sexual abuse
that the
Brooklyn Diocese has given to the Brooklyn District Attorney's
Office.- NYPOST.com By Clemente Lisi
